Author's Note

There’s really no way to break down the writing of this particular story without giving away the “twist.” (I put that in quotation marks because plenty of people guessed where the story was going, and that’s okay! I don’t write red herrings expecting every single reader to follow them.)

Instead, I will just say that while I feel like I’ve grown and evolved quite a bit as a writer, I haven’t lost my love of the early books. I had so much fun bringing back Recipedia (which I deeply wish was a real place), and revisiting the Kirsten-Jesse dynamic I first wrote way back in Trail of Dead.

I’ll also add that the scene at the end of this story has been in the works for ages, and was a true pleasure to write. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
